Hi Everyone!
If you are concerned about the future of humanity as I am—you know you can make a difference and impact your life and the life of others. I invite you to read this manifesto* and to share your point of view.
On coaching and the future of humanity
In this manifesto you will understand or discover:
- Why the exponential rise of technology will be the biggest challenge humanity has ever faced
- Why crossing the chasm to reach mass market acceptance should become the moonshot project of the coaching industry
- This might be one of the most important or biggest endeavor for the future of humanity
- How and why the coaching industry could impact the future of humanity
-
That coaching could be the first industry in the history of mankind who would have the vision of really making a difference in the world.
- Why increasing global consciousness is paramount for the future of humanity
- Global consciousness should be our soul’s electricity, therefore every decision should be driven by global consciousness.
- Contrary to the ICF’s affirmation that 17% of people globally are very aware of coaching, this number is much lower
- Why it is important to take human beings to the next step in their evolution
- Why every human being should make its own declaration of independence

Thank you Pierre – I will enjoy reading the Manifesto over the weekend while I am with a new group 18 people on the path to become professional coaches. Your sneak preview above aligns with what I believe. Living sovereign, meaning to be independent and in charge of our choice for how to relate tot eh conditions of our lives, to chose with integrity as we do, this is the path to response agility in every domain of life. As coaches we each have the opportunity and privilege to invite our clients to choose to create the life they want and that most honors who they are at essence, the self stripped of the convenience of personality. Cheers & Happy Coaching!

Hi, Pierre,
I admire your enthusiasm for and commitment to coaching and sincerely hope to not be a “spoiler.” I do take issue with your statement: “That coaching could be the first industry in the history of mankind who would have the vision of really making a difference in the world.”
Technically, it could be correct. Other movements to change the world might be called just that: movements or causes. However, as industries go, prior to becoming a CPCC I was a social worker (650,000 in the U.S. alone) and family therapist, both “industries” dedicated to making a difference for individuals, groups and communities.
My issue with coaching is that it is a created vs. organically grown industry, thanks to brilliant (no sarcasm intended at all here) marketing by CTI and the ICF. Coaching gives permission to a much broader group of individuals to make a difference than those educated with Master’s degrees and PhDs or licensed by their governments, and that is a wonderful thing. As someone with considerable training in other helping professions, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the broader scope and freedom provided by coaching and been able to work with individuals and groups I never would have worked with before.
At the same time, there are two profound problems I see with coaching:
1) that coaches (and I’ve guided many as a mentor coach) can get in over their heads with clients’ personal/ behavioral problems and not have the training and experience to deal adequately with them and
2) more importantly even, that there is no consistent means of funding to truly democratize coaching and make it universally (i.e. beyond the good intentions of coaches willing to do pro bono work) available to those who might benefit most– unserved communities, prisons, schools to help our floundering generation of millennials and those coming up.
Solving this last problem would in my mind elevate coaching to the stature you suggest.

Hi Susan!
Thanks for giving us the link to your podcast. It seems very interesting, I am currently listening to episode #1.
I personally believe that if we have reached peace in Northern Ireland and South Africa, I think we can do it anywhere!

É o contrário, estou cansado para escrever em inglês… não é o coaching que vai mudar o futuro da humanidade ou de algumas pessoas, que seja. É o Coachee, the trainer… the trainer will be cause impact for so many lives he can. The Coachee can change lives and the future!!!!

Pierre, I am very glad you brought this to my attention, as it so aligns with and complements the message I am putting out about existential risk and the need to raise global consciousness. You have identified many specific steps and supporting data that coaches and the ICF could take in contributing towards ensuring the survival of our species and facilitating the next phase of our evolution. I will link to your manifesto from my site and I believe those who are engaged with your writing will find my just-published book appealing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUIS9QM/ .

thanks Peter!
I am looking forward to connect with you and to read your book!

The manifesto is a great start in moving towards crossing the chasm as a coaching community. I would love to see a community develop around this manifesto to manifest it into reality. Do you have any plans/strategies to create a movement? I understand you are endorsing ICF as a driving force and I’m wondering if this particulatar aspect requires an affiliated but separate entity?
Pierre Dussault says
I Fionn!
A lot of people have contacted me about the manifesto and Also I started to publish a series of articles to start a discussion around it.
I will the invite the people who are interested for a video conversation so we can create a group that would discuss how we can make some things happen.
The second question is a great questions and it remains to be answered!
