This article was inspired by my father. Despite earning a very modest salary, he was able to provide for 8 children and live a decent life. He was an elder generation guy, having been born in 1922. The first part of his life was pretty tough. He lost his father at the age of 5, went through the Great Depression, and fought in WWII as a volunteer in the RCAF. After the war, he spent his entire career as a clerk at Canada Post.
